About - Drive Electric Northern Colorado

DENC On Twitter

Drive Electric Northern Colorado (DENC) is a first-of-its-kind, community-wide initiative designed to achieve widespread deployment of plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) in the Northern Colorado Region.

By developing innovative public-private partnerships, a comprehensive electric vehicle ecosystem, and, most importantly, strong community participation and involvement, DENC will promote and support widespread PEV ownership for individuals, families, businesses, and commercial vehicle fleets in Northern Colorado.  The effort will serve as a “living laboratory” and as a model to be implemented in other communities around the country.

DENC is a partnership of the Electrification Coalition, the City of Fort Collins, the City of Loveland, and Colorado State University.

Drive Electric Northern Colorado Launch

On February 25, 2013, Drive Electric Northern Colorado officially launched at the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery.

DENC’s launch was a tremendous success, featuring speeches by Bill Ritter, former Governor of Colorado; Ron Sega, President of Colorado State University’s Energy and Environment Program; Karen Weitkunat, Mayor of Fort Collins; Cecil Gutierrez, Mayor of Loveland; Dave Peterson of Nissan North America; and Robbie Diamond, CEO of the Electrification Coalition.  More than 200 engaged citizens joined 30 key partners and stakeholders for the press conference, which was followed by groundbreaking on Colorado’s first DC fast charging station—which can charge a Nissan LEAF from zero to 80 percent capacity in 30 minutes.  Event attendees were able to participate in the initiative’s first “ride and drive” event, and experience electric vehicles first hand.

Moving forward, DENC will build upon the momentum established during the launch event, leveraging its key partnerships and the engagement of the community to make the area a leader in electric vehicle deployment.
